Hi, I am a disability worker and working in day service in Ireland. I am using photography more as a therapeutical tool as well as to let the clients explore their creativity. I would like to know if anybody is using photography with people with a learning disability and what experiences they made. Thanks in advance. Claudia
Hi Claudia, I am an art therapist working with adults with Learning Disability in scotland in and around Stirling. I am very interested to hear of your experiences working with these clients using photography. I trained with Judy in April this year.
hi alison, thanks for your message. i am working with adults from a mild to moderate learning disability. we started quite a few projects, all different in length, some of them were only a day long others took several weeks. mainly i tried to improve their creativity and visual skills. some projects had "side effects" meaning that these projects also touched other fields like literacy skills, improving their memory etc. they are very interested in it. at the moment i work with a smaller group using the darkroom to print our own pictures using different creative techniques. this has proven to be very successful. they are "hooked" on it which is great to see. next year we will have to chance to hold an exhibition. do you also use photography with your clients? how do you make use of it?
