Hello, i am writing a masters research thesis on the use of photography in my own heuristic processes and its relevance to working with client groups. I'm interested in the idea of people being able to expand, and enrich their sense of self through this process. I would like to talk to anyone who might have already engaged in heuristic research using this method, or who have worked with a client group where the focus was on re constructing their perception of their world through photography.
Carlo, it's good to see your interest in our field.
I think that perhaps your request, being a "general" one, might be too vague for readers to be able to know what sorts of experiences you would want to talk with them about...
maybe you might want to post another message that gives a few examples of the kinds of questions you would like to ask, or perhaps a list of the topics you might want to cover??
Also, I have a few suggestions about a bit tighter focus might be helpful(?):
First, the page titled: "Who is Doing What, Where" -- and then look down the page for the names and email addresses of those whose own work, careers, interests, etc. might "fit" for you...
In particular you might notice that many are in the UK (as I think, from your email address, you might also be?)...
and then
Second, the page titled "Student Theses and Dissertations" and examine the list there to see if any of that research might "fit" for you -- and if it does, then email me privately at: jweiser@phototherapy-centre.com and see if I can put you in touch with those authors...
2) perhaps also have a look at the list of Presenters for the upcoming "International Conference on PhotoTherapy and Therapeutic Photography" happening in Turku, Finland, in June of this year -- perhaps some of them might also "fit" for you
finally, when reading your request re: "a client group where the focus was on re constructing their perception of their world through photography" -- I do want to tell you that to me, this is one of the things that the entire field of PhotoTherapy is about -- and probably even moreso is the field of Therapeutic Photography as far as "process" goes...
Hi Carlo, You are in the UK so you may have noticed that we will be running a PhotoTherapy Techniques workshop at Derby University in late 2008 or early 2009. Are you a counsellor or therapist conducting this masters research? If so you may be interested in the workshop.
Have you followed Judy's advice and searched through the 'Who's doing what where' page? There's quite a few of us scattered over the UK so you have have no problem gathering data. cheers, Mark
Mark, I would be interested to know more about the PhotoTherapy Techniques workshop that you mentioned happening at Derby Uni late 2008/early 2009, presuming it hasn't already run! Please could you email me some information on ruthemilyhanson@yahoo.co.uk? I am currently engaged in therapeutic photography, and working with a counsellor who is keen to do PhotoTherapy with me. I feel it could be something we could both benefit from. Thanks in advance. Ruth
Hi Ruth, The study weekend at Derby University will take place on 28th February & 1st March 2009. A more detailed post will appear over the next few days under a new thread heading. More details will be announced on phototherapy.org.uk. The other UK phototherapy, therapeutic photography and related practitioners will enjoy meeting another kindred spirit. There's also due to be more informal gatherings around the UK, possibly one in Birmingham at the end of this month (November 2008). Kind regards, Mark
