Posted by Judy Weiser, Administrator I posted a reply under each of those under that thread, but I am now going to also repeat one of these here in this message, so that readers new to this site can find the info. Please, if you are interested in this subject (see header), go to the thread that began after my first "welcome" posting on Oct 3 -- at the very end of this discussion page... Now, below, is the (repeat) text that is relevant to MY header for this message: **WHAT FOLLOWS is a duplicate of a posting in response to Barbara Tyroler's below; however I chose to add it separately also as a "new header" posting because of the topic of PhotoTherapy (and Therapeutic Photography) with elders, in geriatric counseling and/or photo-based activity groups): There are a lot of people using PhotoTherapy techniques in geriatric counseling and also in activity groups for elders (sometimes in combination with children's activity groups). Some are listed on the "Who's Doing What, Where" page of the PhotoTherapy Website (see: http://www.phototherapy-centre.com/widww.htm ). There is also a lot of information about working with older people, in my book "PhotoTherapy Techniques" (see: http://www.phototherapy-centre.com/bookvid.htm): Aronson, D.W. and Graziano, A. (1976). Improving elderly clients' attitudes through photography. The Gerontologist, 16, 259-264. Barkan, Jonathan L. (1978). Candid camera renews zest for life. Innovations, Spring, 37-38. Burt, Berniece; Ball, Kirstin; and Malchiodi, Cathy. (1989). Reminiscence and life review using art therapy with the elderly. Paper presented at the 20th Annual Conference of the American Art Therapy Association, San Francisco, November 18. Butler, R. (1963). The life review: An interpretation of reminiscence in the aged. Psychiatry, 26, 65-76. Lewis, M.I., and Butler, R. N. (1974). Life review therapy: putting memories to work in individual and group psychotherapy. Geriatrics, 29, 165-173. Okura, Yutaka; Ziller, Robert C.; and Osawa, Hiroshi. (1986). The psychological niche of older Japanese and Americans through auto-photography: Aging and the search for peace. The International Journal Aging and Human Development, 22:4, 247-259. Platt, Larry A. (1984). Experience exchange: Photography project gives old and young new perspective. Aging, 34:6, 30. Shore, Annette. (1989). Themes of loss in the pictorial language of a nursing home. The Canadian Art Therapy Association Journal, 4:1, 16-32. Walker, Joel, and Cohen, Pat. (1984). The creative elderly. Unpublished Paper Presented at the International PhotoTherapy Symposium, Toronto. Zwick, D.S. (1978). Photography as a tool toward increased awareness of the aging self. I am posting this as a "new" message because there is an interesting thread at the very bottom of this message board, which started as Ana's reply to my "welcome messag", but then began a thread of messages from several other people doing work similar to hers.
There are also many publications on the subject; for example those below -- but please note that some of these are therapy focused (PhotoTherapy techniques), while some are Therapeutic Photography activities and no therapist was involved). ![]()
