[Administrative note: This message has been edited to include the detail that this event is happening in a suburb of Vancouver Canada, and to make the title more clear as to its subject matter]:
Over the summer, ACRP has been running a photo-therapy group for street youth in collaboration with KlaHowEya (Surrey Aboriginal Center). The group has been taking place at Bindiigan Place, the street youth drop in center on Monday afternoons. Each week the youth have been given a theme that they must represent photographically. Some themes have included “healthy relationships,” and “coping with stress”.
The purpose of the group has been to promote the mental health and wellness of these youth by engaging them in a positive activity that facilitates discussion. The hope was also to promote awareness of available crisis resources and mental health services for youth.
It will be an open-house to take place at KlaHowEya on Wednesday October 5th between 3:00 and 8:00PM. There will be free refreshments and food. It will be a time where youth can invite friends and family to see what they have been doing. Some of the youth are also hoping to sell some of their art at this exhibition. We are hoping that mental health professionals and other youth-servicing agencies will come out and see what these youth have been up to. It would be a wonderful opportunity to promote your program and get to know some of the street youth in the Surrey community.
Feel free to contact me with any questions, I really hope we see you there,
Jennifer Mervyn, (Crisis Worker, ACRP) Phone: 604-585-5561
