Posted by Judy Weiser I thought it would be helpful to provide a bit more information... PhotoTherapy Techniques use therapy clients' own personal snapshots and family photos (and the feelings, memories, thoughts and information these evoke) as catalysts for therapeutic communication. This Group for discussing PhotoTherapy techniques is actually a part of a very comprehensive website where you can find a lot more information about how these techniques are used in counseling and therapy. (To get to that site, click on Homepage link at the top of this page, or go to: http://www.phototherapy-centre.com) The main website also includes an explanation of how PhotoTherapy (as part of a counseling process, done to help others) is different from, though closely related to, "Therapeutic Photography" (photo-based activities done for oneself for the purpose of personal healing, but with no therapist or counseling involved). Please make sure you understand these differences when posting below, so that the subject of your message is clear about which one of these you are writing about... The site includes individual pages for: a general summary plus specific techniques (a page for each, including rationale and examples), its history, comparisons with both art therapy and therapeutic photography, info about training and educational options (how to order the book, description of courses and workshops available), lists of recommended readings and unpublished student theses, dissertations & project papers on the subject, a large number of exciting related links, a page for "who's doing what, where" (other practitioners to network with), as well as a page for comparing your own responses to a few photos with those given by others, etc. etc. I encourage you to explore the website first (in case the answer to your question is on it!) and then to engage in dialogue via this Discussion Group. Should you want direct contact with me or the PhotoTherapy Centre, email directly to: jweiser@phototherapy-centre.com -- or phone: 604-689-9709 (or fax to 604-633-1505). The mailing address for the PhotoTherapy Centre is: 1300 Richards Street, Suite #205, Vancouver, B.C., Canada, V6B 3G6. I welcome you to this Group, and please let me know if you feel any messages need my personal attention. Thank you, Judy Weiser, R.Psych, A.T.R., Director, PhotoTherapy Centre![]()
