Posted by Judy Weiser, Administrator yes I received your recent email message directly (through my Server), but please realize that I do not always have time to answer messages immediately (or make replies to this Group) because I am VERY busy... Sometimes emails will not be answered for a week or more, due to my schedule being too full (I am bad at "time management" and end up making too many promises to too many people!)... I apologize for the delay, but I also want to tell you that this is how my life is! I also want to explain that the purpose of this "Discussion Group" page for people to discuss PhotoTherapy -- and it is not really for the purpose of people just individually corresponding with one person specifically (and this rule applies also to me! -- so although I am answering you briefly below this time now (because maybe others can benefit by what I tell you about that workshop), I must also now request that in the future, if you are communicating ONLY with me, would you please only write to me through sending me an email directly)... The details of the workshop at Derby are just being finalised, but I can tell you that there are three kinds of events happening there, and you are welcome to contact them (once we have the contact numbers available!) about attending at least the first (and maybe also the second) of these three -- but that you will likely not qualify for the third (the training workshop that you want to attend): 1) there will be an evening (3 hours) slide-illustrated lecture presentation (with possibly a brief experiential; we haven't finalised the design of that event yet) 2) There will be a day with the students that "outsiders" are welcome to attend by permission of the Course Leader 3) there will be a three-day TRAINING workshop for already-trained therapists (people with graduate degrees in the mental health counselling professions -- where those people either are already working as counsellors or therapists -- or have just finished postgraduate degree programs which included supervised practicum placements -- i.e. they are already experienced in some way, at DOING therapy with clients, for the purposes of helping those clients with emotional distress/problems. From what you describe to me, it sound more like your work might be in the "Therapeutic Photography" domain than that of "PhotoTHERAPY", but please correct me if I'm wrong here!! [more explanation about these differences can be found on my website, on the "Comparisons" page; see link below] (But, I must honestly say that "one course" in psychotherapy" does not sound to ME as being enough experience to prepare you for the pace and depth and focus of what will be a primarily experiential "Training Workshop in PhotoTherapy Skills for Therapists") however, I am open to continuing this dialogue (but only by private email correspondence because, as I already mentioned, our messages just between the two of us, don't belong here in this Discussion Group format). Please, do NOT reply to this posting here now, unless your posting will contain information to ALL readers of this page -- instead, write me directly at: One other important detail: This will NOT be the only time I will be teaching at Derby! They are designing this to be possibly an annual event(!), and so perhaps if you do not qualify for acceptance this time, you might be able to get in the next time, once you've had more therapy training/experience... Finally, I will be the first to say that perhaps I have misunderstood you, and so if that is the case, please explain to me what COUNSELLING you have done, what kinds of emotional therapy services you have provided people (disabled or not), what techniques you are using for this, what your underlying theoretical modalities are, what your sessions usually cover, etc. etc. and I will promise to reconsider my decision not to take you in the Training Workshop this time... And, it's *me* you have to convince, not Derby! Once you have learned and trained to be a therapist, THEN you can take my training workshop. Until then, you ARE welcome at any Introductory-Level (briefer) ones, as they are for "Information ABOUT PhotoTherapy", rather than "Training IN" it... hope this helps -- and please answer only by direct email now... (unless it's something of use to everyone reading this page, please!) THANKS FOR YOUR ENTHUSIASM though! Judy Link: "PhotoTherapy" compared with "Therapeutic Photography"
