Posted by Judy Weiser, Administrator I am wondering how you "found" this Discussion Group -- , because I am curious to learn if you came here through seeing the new "Site Summary" page in Italian, linked to my homepage??... if not, then you might want to go look at that page in Italian because it might be useful; go to: The man who kindly donated this translation is Ayres Marques Pinto, who lives in Loreto -- and has a LOT of experience working using Therapeutic Photography with psychiatric communities. He is not a therapist; he sounds a lot like you! In another week, he will have both my book and video -- and he is busy translating some other PhotoTherapy information from English into Italian also. If you live close to him, perhaps you can meet and talk more... Ayres knows of one book in Italian that seems to summarize (or copy? not sure!) my book and also a book by a psychotherapist in England, Linda Berman ("Beyond the Smile"), and so perhaps reading that book IN ITALIAN! *about* our work, might at least be a good beginning for you... That book is: “Fototerapia e Diario Clinico”** ("PhotoTherapy and Clinical Diary") by Giusti and Proietti, published by Franco Angeli. Ayres has just finished writing an article about his experiences (and how he also thought he was the first one to do these things -- which he has been doing now for many long years!). He enjoys referring to himself as "one of the PhotoTherapy Re-Inventors"... His article will be published late this year, but I am sure that he would be willing to share it with you! Also he is so very enthusiastic about PhotoTherapy and Therapeutic Photography, that I am sure he would be very happy to speak with you in person or on the telephone, if you will only contact him directly!! But please ALSO share your communication with all of us on this Discussion Group page, too -- PLEASE!! (if you can write in BOTH Italian AND English, it would be useful for sharing with us too -- do not worry about the quality of English, it does not matter because it is the CONTENT of your message that we wish to learn from!) Here is some information about Ayres now (these are his own words): [stiill Ayres]: "At the moment I’m using photography in my work with elderly people and teenagers in a program called "The Face and the Voice of Time". It would be great if we all could meet somewhere here in Italy to share our experiences. Judy Weiser told me she would be happy to come to Italy to offer workshops and lectures if only we create the conditions for her to come. [still Ayres] "Some people here in my area of Italy (Ancona) have begun to meet to talk about PhotoTherapy. A group is beginning to form as a result of these meetings. It’s called "GRIFO" (Guppo di Ricerca in Fototerapia). If you are interested to know more about it, just look for my recent message posted to the "Discussion Group" page of the "PhotoTherapy Techniques" website-- and send in your own response -- and, please, if you know Italian, put your message into both languages (English and Italian), so that all readers will be able to understand it)... Perhaps you might want to contact Ayres and get more information... his email address is: but please *also* share back with all of us, any additional information you discover, especially if there are articles or books in Italian, which we might not know about here! thank you for your interest, Judy (Weiser) Link: Tecniche di Fototerapia in Counseling e Psicoterapia

Hello Giuseppe, and thank you for your inquiry!
http://www.phototherapy-centre.com/italian.htm ("Tecniche di Fototerapia in Counseling e Psicoterapia").
[ **IMPORTANT NOTE added on Sept 12, 2005, about this book mentioned above: Please note that on the basis of facts which I consider very reliable, I believe that the Giusti & Proietti book ("Fototerapia e Diario Clinico") is a plagiarism of my book ("PhotoTherapy Techniques"! -- see next message in this thread (on the main page), or go to:

"I didn’t know anything about the existence of PhotoTherapy when I had the idea of sharing with other people the pleasure of taking pictures. I wrote down a project called "Photo-in-Conscious" which consisted basically on getting the guests of a psychiatric community to take active part in the various moments of the photographic process: from posing to shooting (inside and mainly outside the community), from creating their life album to writing about it; from developing the film to printing the photos in the darkroom, from scanning the pictures to manipulating the images using the computer, from choosing the pictures to organizing an exhibition.
Far about two years we went around Ancona, Italy, taking pictures and developing the films and enlarging the photos which then became an exhibition whose success went much beyond our expectations.
I learned from this experience how much effect therapeutic photography could have. I saw people who were usually completely absorbed by their own thoughts, people who didn’t usually get out of themselves to lift their eyes to start looking at the world, just because of carrying a camera. I saw people who thought very little of themselves to proudly show to the public the beautiful pictures they’d taken and printed themselves."
