Posted by Kathryn Chandler The outcome was quite amazing, especially for some, who truly embraced the exercise and learned a lot about themselves in the process. The insights that sprang from the photos were touching and thought-provoking, exceeding my hopes, and possibly their expectations. When we debriefed some talked about feeling a little vulnerable, so the exercise became a window into the vulnerability our clients can feel, but also into the vulverability we can all feel as professionals when we truly put ourselves out there. Authenticity surfaced as an underlying theme to many of the essays.

As Practicum Coordinator in the Department of Human Ecology at the University of Alberta, I lead a senior professional practice course in which I guide students in some reflective practice techniques. After taking Ronna Jevne's Images and Echoes course I felt inspired to share the technique with the human ecology students.
I hope to use photo journaling in class again next year. Thank you Ronna, for your inspiration and guidance in using this wonderful tool for reflective practice.![]()
