working with imagery of my children to allow for reclaiming of their images

I am creating imagery of my children. I have been reading Erikson and Vygotsky to supplement my own theories of child development. They then "decorate" the images that I print after we talk about them. I am in the images (no face)also. This is my way of them reclaiming their image/identity as I use them as tools in my art making. Is anyone else working in this manner? Previously, I was photographing them and creating psychological profiles of their innate personality traits, gender traits, etc. sort of like early 1800 imagery of mentally insane or criminals.
