Thanks for this message Jan, and I hope you will write back with a message that contains some additional details about your "photo-instrument".
It is always of interest to me to see what other people are doing and there has certainly been a lot of interest in the past few years, in what is called "photo-storytelling" or sometimes "digital storytelling" (there are several websites about this, which I hope to soon add to my website's "Links" page)
Could you please tell us what actually happens in these "group sessions" you describe -- and how are the assignments to patients done -- for example:
- are the assignments one for each week for a certain time period?
- what are the topics for the photo assignments?
- do patients also discuss after viewing, as a group?
- do they also work with their own therapists while doing these groups or is this a group therapy process itself?
(I am curious to learn more!)
Finally, although you and I have corresponded individually, so I do know some about your background, readers of your message might not know these things -- so perhaps when you reply, you can also tell readers of this page, what your own "identity" is -- who are you and what do you do in your own work -- so that they can know better about your interests.
For readers of this message, you can also find out more about Jan by reading his paragraph on the "Who is Doing What, Where" page of the main PhotoTherapy Techniques Website -- see that page at:
http://www.phototherapy-centre.com/widww.htm
Jan if you want to network with others who are doing group work where patients take photos, maybe post another message where you ask for this kind of contact -- and also please now see the paragraph on that same page, for Dr. Carmine Parrella -- I think you would both be interested in what each other does with groups of patients!
Last thought: Perhaps since you live close to Finland, you might want to attend this major Conference in June in Finland:
"International Conference on PhotoTherapy and Therapeutic Photography" -- Turku, Finland -- June 16-18 (pre-conference workshops on June 12-14) --
more info, bios of presenters, and tentative Program, can all be found at:
http://www.congress.utu.fi/phototherapy08
I am the "Invited Keynote Plenary Speaker" (and also doing a Pre-Conference Workshop on the Photo-Projectives Technique-- ) and there will be major presentations there also from many other of the early pioneers -- several of whom have work that parallels your own interests...
Some of the newer "second generation" theorists and practitioners will be there also (including Dr. Parrella!) -- along with some pretty exciting people, workshops, and photo exhibitions too.
IMPORTANT: Jan, I would like to strongly urge you to make a proposal to present at the above International Conference, about your work and your "instrument" -- so that others can learn more about it and make contact with you.
I am not on the Committees for this event (I am not involved in deciding who is accepted for presentations) but I do very much think they would welcome a presentation by you, about what you have been doing...
Please go to that website and see how to submit a proposal to present - it is simple (only a half-page) and the deadline is not until January 15...
thanks for sharing with us here -- hope you will respond!
regards,
Judy (Weiser)
