Posted by Ellen Fisher-Turk The site has been redesigned and shows images and diaries of women I've worked from 1994 through the present. These women suffer from eating disorders, sexual abuse, negative body image and cancer. I use black and white photography coupled with personal journals, photograph (only) women from clothed to as nude as they allow, giving them contact sheets. The dissonance between images they don't like and those that are a surprise, help open up and diffuse their negative self judgement, making room, I believe for self love. We look for the answers from other people. I photograph these women with the intention of finding what is beautiful about them so that they can see it themselves. The site has pages on recent exhibits, ongoing projects and workshops I've given, research, press, a book proposal and links. I welcome invitations to share my work at conferences and other events. I've begun training photographer/therapists in my approach toward phototherapy. I regularly present at colleges. I live in one of the boroughs of N.Y.City and will travel the world to share my work. I photograph primarily in my apartment or women's apartments because they're safe but have also been known to photograph women outside of New York. I welcome meeting people who are doing related work. I'm currently studying to be a modern psychoanalyst, with the intention of giving my use of photography as a therapeutic intervention, a theoretical base. It's about re-seeing and re-mothering with a camera. It's about giving women an opportunity to viscerally feel who they hoped to be. Please call when you're coming through New York.
