Doing a Dissertation on why and how old photo collections belonging to strangers affect us

I am now in the final year of my Fine Art degree at Northampton, UK and am following a line of enquiry with my practical work and dissertation that investigates my response to a box of stranger's private family photographs that I acquired through a house clearance company. I have grown to love these photographs as my own and believe that I could learn about myself through these which somehow seem to fill a gap in my collection. To me they represent the epitome of happy families and the man, in particular, has had a profound effect: possibly representing my absent father and the boys, siblings I never had. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has investigated found photographs and learn about their experiences.
