Posted by Jana Vinsky on 5/22/2006, 9:48 am Hello. I am a Canadian Narrative Therapist who has been using video therapy techniques to enhance the effectiveness of my narrative therapy sessions with clients. I have now formalized this into a framework that I teach and demonstrate -- and enjoy sharing with other therapists -- and Judy Weiser has encouraged me to now introduce to readers of this Discussion Group page, my "Transformative Video Therapy (TVT) Process", which combines immediate video feedback with Narrative Therapy practices in a structured way. Please see more details below... Here is a brief synopsis: I film the client telling their story. I then invite the client to imagine the person we are about to view on the TV screen, through the immediate video feedback, as an actor in a play. We then discuss “this actor” and develop a character description, setting, script and title of the play. I then ask the client to step into role of director, and from such a lens, invite the client to witness the telling of their story. I give the client the remote control and ask them to push pause when they see something they can share with me, which will help give us more insight into what is happening for this actor. Both the client and I take notes, documenting where the actor in the play can use some guidance. Once the video footage is reviewed, we de-brief. We explore what this actor is wanting, what their mission is, what they may have forgotten in terms of their intentions and whatever additional insights the client gained through watching the footage. When ready, the client is filmed again giving guidance to the actor on the screen. This guidance is once again witnessed together. I will be presenting on this process at the upcoming "North American Conference on Spirituality and Social Work" at Waterloo University, on May 25th 2006. You can find more information at: http://people.stu.ca/~jcoates/cnssw/program%20specific%202006.html I welcome correspondence from others who use immediate video feedback in therapy and with those integrating narrative practices with photo and video therapy in general. As well, I am currently building my website. If you would like to be notified when it is ready for viewing, please let me know at the above email address. Sincerely, Jana Vinsky M.S.W., R.S.W.

I wanted people to know about this in case they were in the area and wanted to attend.
I will also be at York University, Toronto, ON for the annul conference: The Canadian Federation For The Humanities and Social Services (CFHSS), May 31-June 3. I would be interested in meeting up with others at the conference whose work is similar -- so please either post replies here on the Discussion Group page -- or email me privately at:
