Posted by Craig Steinberg It's been awhile since I posted, but I am excited to do this posting. My name is Craig Steinberg and I'm a psychologist in Eugene, Oregon. I have been doing my own version of PhotoTherapy groups with children for over six years at Jasper Mountain, which is a residential program for children. Most of these children have severe trauma in their background, attachment disturbances, and behavioral and emotional difficulties. My PhotoTherapy groups have been highly successful in helping the children access their trauma, tell their story, and help them in their path to healing. I have established my own unique manner of using PhotoTherapy techniques within a structured 8-week group format using the mediums of still photography, darkroom developing, and video photography to help the children tell their stories from their own eyes and their own control. The groups use a combination of narrative therapy, psychodrama, and trauma-based therapy approaches and also heavily incorporate the concept of empathy. That being said, here is the main reason for my posting. I cordially invite any or all of you to see a presentation I will be doing on my PhotoTherapy groups for the Northwest Arts Therapy Council's Creative Art Therapy Week (CAT Week) from March 6-11 2006 in Portland, Oregon. The Cascade Art Therapy Association is sponsoring this weeklong event and you can read about their organization and about 2006 CAT Week on their website: www.nwarttherapy.org. All CAT Week presentations will be held at McMenamin's Kennedy School. The McMenamins Kennedy School is at 5736 NE 33rd Avenue in Portland. The sessions will all be held in the Parsons Room. My presentation will take place on Monday, March 6th from 3:30-5:00pm. It is called, "The HITEC Phototherapy Group: Healing Images Through The Eyes of Children." The brief CAT Week write up I prepared for CAT Week says the following: "Craig Steinberg, Ph.D. presents about the “HITEC Photo Therapy Group,” an 8-week therapy group helping children with severe trauma histories heal through “telling their story” using the medium of photography combined with trauma-based techniques." My objectives for the 90-minute presentation are as follows: 1. Attendees will learn about a creative and novel structured group approach using the mediums of photography and video in addressing trauma with children and help Now a public acknowledgment to Judy. Thank you so much Judy for all your longtime support of my work, your invaluable advice and guidance, and for turning me on to this opportunity for me to share my work.
