Posted by murder in river city zine on 6/29/2007, 10:56 am, in reply to "show reviews II" I surprised there weren't more people at this show. Those little yellow flyers were ####ing everywhere. When I was waiting for the bus last week, I saw one just sitting in the street. Holy ####, the promoter didn't skimp on getting the word out. Anyway, after ordering a pint of Stella Artois, I made my way into the back room for the show. The pizza works moved their show room to the way back with all the antiques. If you ask me, this is a terrible idea. Hey, I know! Let's cram 200 punk rockers in a space with valuable vases and crafts. Nothing will go wrong! I give this new spot a month before a riot breaks loose and you got porcelain dolls getting their faces smashed in. The show started with a punk/thrash trio called Laura's Agent. I saw them about a year ago at the Agape Java hut in Bloomington but wasn't too impressed with their brand of simplistic metalic hardcore. I like the energy and some riffs are really spot on, but there aren't enough "good songs" to keep me interested. Look for this kind of thing coming out on Victory or whatever shitty-ass label does this kind of stuff. next, the River City Radicals stepped up and blew the minds of those in attendance. In case your not hip to the RCR, they make up some of the members of The Scabies and The MIBS. If your looking for similier sounds of each band to creep into this one, you better think twice. It's good solid street punk rock with an emphasis on ROCK. These guys did a short stint in a band called the Manges, but this project seems to have taken over. This is the way street punk should always be played. Gang vocals and high energy riffs! After a few more pints of the blessing water, I was reved up for what became the highlight of the night. Whirlybird came out and converted the non-believers. And as soon as they struck the first chord, they were out. Leaving a dust cloud of blistering hard rock/punk in it's path. They debuted a few new songs tonight and from what I heard, their next record is gonna go gold.
