Posted by Sam Kinison on 3/2/2007, 3:42 pm, in reply to "(no subject)" I think music can summon many different types of energy. Country and western bands from Nashville produce a certain energy, or emotion, in a listener. But in the case of those Country bands, the bohemian spirit I was referring to in my original post is most obviously absent. That is what we used to have in Peoria that is missing today. I think you only proved my point when you said "I haven’t been to a Peoria show in years... The only reason the scene doesn’t branch off into other genres, or has no audience for one, is because a majority of Peorians just get fed up and move to Chicago where lesser known types of music are more prevalent." It didn't used to be like that. People interested in music didn't have to run off to Chicago (or Portland) to enjoy the thing they truly loved, because we had it right here. I also think it's counterproductive to write me off as merely reminiscing about the past (although I know I'm just an old fart ranting on a message board). I think most people would agree the "scene" is a shadow of what it once was. We could have that energy again if we had some venues, a few "gathering centers" like One World, Tiamat, or the Twilight Zone for people to make new contacts and have a place to hang out, and an audience of people interested in music again. Right now, though, I agree with you, I think a musician's best bet is to move to Chicago...

Hello Robbie. I remember hanging out with you a couple of times. In fact, in my original post when I was talking about my four hypothetical friends and said "one of us wasn't as partial to music as other forms of art," I actually had you in mind.
