Posted by Robbie For some people music, or noise, is about releasing energy, and the supposed negative content in the music, lyrics, or samples is only there to contribute to the song’s impact, not to arouse real anger in the listener. I’ve seen clubs full of kids dancing to Suicide Commando, Wumpscut, Terrorfakt—acts which incorporate violent beats and negative lyrics, but not a single member of the crowd is fighting, or even noticeably angry. They’re having a good time. It’s about energy, therefore, celebrating life, or whatever. That’s my perspective. Maybe the scene you’re talking about has a completely different vibe. Concerning the God Squad shows, eh … don’t get me started. I haven’t been to a Peoria show in years, but from what I gather the scene is still dominated by Indie/Hardcore bands, whatever those might be. The only reason the scene doesn’t branch off into other genres, or has no audience for one, is because a majority of Peorians just get fed up and move to Chicago where lesser known types of music are more prevalent. As for your musings for the times of yesterday, quoting Wilde; “The only charm of the past it that it is the past.”

A couple thoughts on music which ‘celebrates life instead of tearing it down’.
