Some of the people I used to hang with at shows were christians. They we're cool, and we all respected each other's beliefs, choices, and views. But the music that is coming out of the "mega churches" is, as you said, attrocious. These people think repeating "Worthy is the King" four times, followed by "Praise his name" four times, singing the same stuff over and over again is music, but that's NOT music. Of course, I'm just stating the obvious here. You said there is still art in Peoria, and told me to go see it. I disagree. Where are all the punk bands, ska bands, alternative bands, folk/hippie bands, geek rock bands, or any other type of band playing music that celebrates life rather than tearing it down? I refuse to go see some crack addict growling about how life sucks and all he wants to do is slit his wrists. And sure, there were pissed off, angry people in the "scene" back when I was involved, and I suppose you'll always have that in the music world, but they weren't in the majority. We had plenty of cool people who wanted to make art, celebrate life, and have a good time to balance them out. You said that "the kids" are the problem. I partially disagree with that as well. What have we given them to get them to come out to shows? The whole vibe of art, creation, and celebrating life was what attracted me to "the scene" back in the day. If all the bands back then were crackheads growling about slitting their wrists, I probably would have preferred staying home watching youtube videos myself, or spending all my time and money at Abercrombie. I think a lot of kids today are friendlier than ever. They don't have that whole snobby Kurt Cobain "I'm kooler than you, so respect me because I'm a hip gen Xer" aura kids used to have. I think a lot of them would love being a part of the scene if we gave them something to be a part of. But we aren't giving them anything to be a part of. Just my thoughts.
