The irratic drumming that doesn't really set a groove, but really serves to add more of a rhythmic texture. The guitar with the slight slapback/echo is pure syd barrett. The same chords over and over again seem to be more effect rather than motion. Not really a memorable melody, but art isn't always hummable. "U are the 1 i adore" Garage-y with some kind of synth pad in the middle and some megaphone phrasing. There's a groove to this song, but there's enough noise to keep you from calling it funky. Nice buildup at the end, but still sounds contrived. No real hook again, but sometimes art has to be looked at/listened to a while to appreciate.... "Failed Failed Failed" Has some good parts to it. Nice breakdown with some piano. Cool guitar sounds. Ok. Well there's my review. Other than a good image and nice production, I couldn't find anything particularly interesting there. The influences are obvious when you hear these songs. No real hooks or memorable melodies to speak of. Some of the lyrics were interesting. If the intention was to sound like most other Cure/Depeche Mode/Morrisey-like bands then you've succeeded. But when's the last time you wanted someone to tell you "Hey man, you sound like someone else." ?
Link: It's a good book, seriously
