Are the goalkeeper errors any worse than those made by Burnley’s keeper vs us and then the week after when he let it roll under his foot? Premier league footballers on hundreds of thousands of pounds with years and years of the best coaching, facilities and sports science behind them, still make the same mistakes.
I think the biggest problem is that people expect it or compare it to mens football, they are completely different sports played by completely different people with completely different physiologies.
The football pyramid of women’s football is hugely entertaining with almost all divisions coming down to the last few games to be decided, there is also less diving, cheating and faking injuries - it’s a breath of fresh air to watch and to referee.
It also opens up opportunities for those who can’t afford the mens game, lots go to see the games held at the main stadiums as it’s the only way they can afford to watch Everton at Goodison for example. It’s also going to grow and grow now that it’s getting more exposure and more money and some of that gap in coaching, facilities and development of players will lead to even better players going forward.
As the men’s game becomes more and more ruined by everyone involved with it, the women’s game will be a lot closer to the sport we all love, until the vultures get their teeth into it - enjoy it whilst it lasts!!

Fitness test coming up as the first step in my attempts at referee promotion to a level 2 in the women’s game next weekend.
Disappointed that todays last day fight for the title wasn’t quite as close as was expected to be, but have also enjoyed Everton’s better performances of late after a weird couple of seasons with chopping and changing managers etc.
Likewise the championship was a close one this year with 4 teams vying for the title going into the final handful of matches.
In the Womens National League (basically division 3 - or league 1 men’s in new money) Portsmouth (who I had the pleasure of refereeing in the FA Cup are a fantastic team and will be interesting to see how they cope with the step up, will be watching out for their results, they’re managed by a scouser too!
Huge changes coming for the women’s game and its popularity is absolutely flying and will only get better and better as its visibility increases and the money comes in from attendances and tv deals. Arsenal will be playing about 10/11 games at The Emirates next season for example and they’ve brought in huge crowds recently.
It’s a sport on the up and it’s only getting better which is a shame….
….. for Joey Barton and our good Dr friend.
If you don’t like it, don’t read it, it’s not fucking rocket science.
