Surgery, medication and radiation all followed during the spring and summer. Recuperation during the autumn.. and a clear bill of health a few weeks before x-mas. She's been to regular follow-ups of course, and last week she was told 'all clear, see you in a couple of years'.
So while I agree with you that everything seems nightmarish right now, it's a standard procedure these days to remove it (if not spread) and it's the form of cancer with the highest rate of survival.
With this said, it's horrible. HORRIBLE. Watching her go through this and there's really nothing you can do about it. Just power through it in the best manner possible.
What we did learn though is that kids are really observant, and the right thing to do is to tell them. Not all, but enough that their imagination won't create monsters that might not be there.
