Provide that movement and he's an intelligent guy who can thread a pass. It simply isn't true that relax Paul control. It's a very neat player and can keep possession, but is too often isolated on the right.
He did run into his usual dead-ends on a few occasions but those were (and always have been tbf) a result of having absolutely no help around him.
It's not as if he can look up and see Godfrey bombing forward, which is not intended as a slight on Godfrey.
all about opinions, of course, but I thought he huffed and puffed. No end product. His ball control is poor and he never goes passed a man on the outside. Player with best control in the team is DCL. Branthwaite too, of course.
...I've found him frustrating to watch, but he was really good last night. Usual workrate but with extra directness and threat. Not sure if he's done enough for a permanent move, but finishing the season like that would make a stronger case.
At 0-0 he stopped an almost certain goal with a clearance on the goal line last night. If that had gone in I doubt we would have won.
I don't know what future he has with us but he was great last night and deserves some extra credit for his performance.
