I thought the criticism of Dyche was that he's stubborn, and plays the same formation with similar personnel. but by and large players know their roles and aren't out of position.
Garner's adaptability seemed a problem last season, where he was playing right back, but he's only playing centrally now. And yet I hear lots of fans saying he should be right midfield (i.e. out of position).
What do you think Doucoure's best position is? For me he's not a good enough no. 10 because his control of the ball is terrible and creativity is weak, but he's our main scoring threat and so I can totally understand why he plays behind the striker. Indeed when he was out everyone was clamouring for him to come back and play there. I wouldn't say that he's out of position.
Dyche has struck, possibly too resolutely, to his favoured XI:
Pickford
Coleman-Tarks-Branthwaite-Myko
Harrison-Onana-Garner/Gueye-McNeil
Doucoure
DCL
Who's playing out of position there?
Compared to Lampard, Benitez, Ancelotti with Godfrey at left back and no one knowing where Iwobi should be. We all argued about whether Richarlison should be 1 of a front 2, on the left of a front three, or a number 9.
Last night I didn't see our main tactic as being long balls lumped at Beto. I saw Coleman fizz one across the goal, a decent cross that he headed in - we're trying to get crosses into him but he's not very good at getting on the end of those.
Would be interested to know whether you think Garner, Doucoure and Beto should be starting, and if so what their best positions are?
(btw I think whenever we've played 3 at the back we've been rubbish, and don't think Dyche should try it. But I'm pretty sure that a 5-3-2 formation or a 4-3-3 would be much more "square pegs into round holes" than what we're currently seeing)
We’re running the channels, running from deep and arriving late into the box with back post runs but Dyche just sees his size and tries to lump it at him. Trying to make Marcus Bent play like Duncan Ferguson. None of that excuses the finishing (the full stretch howler last night was one of those things).
We all know confidence and feeling comfortable in your role matters. Dyche’s tendency to hammer square pegs into round holes is hurting him, Garner and Doucoure to name but three.
