Despite our resurgence when we got our points deduction, my fear was the lack of depth would cost us and it feels like that’s starting to be the case. Nothing against Young and Coleman but we can’t expect two players of their age to give us the energy we require at this stage of the season. Again, no criticism of Young, but his age means he just lacks that little bit of sharpness that the likes of Harrison can show.
It’s a worry that we struggled to manage the game well today despite getting the lead and having a man advantage for 30 mins. I can only recall one passage where we kept possession at the back and in midfield which just allowed everyone to settle. The direct style is not only predictable but very ineffective and we do need to be much braver in possession in the coming weeks.
Difficult times but we have to keep believing and digging in.
Says everything about where we are and what we have let ourselves become. The “football” is barely watchable. 37% possession. Against Burnley. At home.
The three points are of course welcome but we need a massive reboot at the season end. However the chances of that are remote, at best. If we survive, next season could be really horrible with us having sold Branthwaite and others. A couple more (ex) Burnley players in, Wood & Brownhill for example should keep Dyche and Co happy though.
That was a very, very hard watch.
We need yet another reboot in the summer. I believe Dyche was the right man for the job, but I'd not be averse to new owners getting rid.
I understand the reasons our team is like this, but it's grim. Defensive football is fine if it's getting results, but it's not.
Got my wish….
