But yes, very considered answer. Lots of hypotheticals. And you're right we don't know
Anyway the last two performances have been horrific defensively. Maybe he should choose the players who are, better suited perhaps. Who knows. Maybe you're correct, play what he did. And fail.
But yeah, maybe he sees something in those players. He is the manager, that is his job. Maybe he knows his starting line up, maybe he has been told by Everton not to play Branthwaite due to our situation by Dyche or he wouldn't be allowed to join the squad? Who knows?
I very much doubt we know more than them, but yeah I can't see Dunk and Konsa being starters. I think he knows his starters - Maguire and Stones. What he will be looking for, at probably a quite deep level in terms of ground covered, heart rate, link up play etc - is who can come in, if x gets injured how can we cope etc. IMO he will not think that Dunk is a "better" player than Branthwaite, but maybe he thinks he isn't ready, or what if he fucks up and it ruins his international confidence or whatever?
Reality is we don't know, we just look at the team and think WTF, which is easy to do when we only look into the dressing room through the keyhole.
Ok, with the benefit of the doubt, maybe he learnt that Dunk will never play for England again and that Konsa will need a lot of time.
Or, like with Maguire, he will just stick with them.
the arsenal boy knew the score
Gomez, Dunk, Konsa, chilwell.
Worst possible defence (picked by the manager).
Gareth is one lucky boy that his problems tactically offensively are solved by constant pure gold on the production line.
Rice---mainoo
Saka---jude---foden
-----kane.
As always they will lose to the first good team as Southgate always picks the wrong defence
