so attacking, so direct, his body power and the way he could turn a player, not seen anything since.
If he wasn't injured I think we would have had a good chance of winning that. He was electric.
Do you remember just how good he was, I mean he was a once in a lifetime player. His debut for Man U in the CL. They knew they got a bargain then.
He was far better than Ashley Cole for a couple of seasons, but didn’t get the opportunities because he was playing with us and not in the Champions League.
You could maybe make an argument for the Euro 2004 version of Rooney, tbh. I can’t recall who else was lighting it up at the time (Henry? Van Persie?) but he was just an unreal raw talent, at that point. Ferguson turned him into an exceptional team player but I always felt that slightly stymied him. Euro 2004 we got a glimpse of what he was capable of.
in the world at the time. The one person mentioned was Southall.
Who else do you think could be considered the best in the world in their position at the time?
Gary Lineker?
Dixie Dean?
Any other possibles?
I was always partial to Baines, I thought he was severely underrated outside of Everton supporters, he was brilliant for a couple of seasons although I know people would laugh at me for that.
Sheedy 84/85? 14 goals as a winger.
Before my time - Brian Labone, Ray Wilson? Talking out of my arse here, I've no idea how good they were.
Anyway, thoughts if you fancy.
