we won 2 of them
But we were also 2 -1 up at Brighton who then got one of the worst penalty decisions ever seen
The following week Dele Alli punched the ball in the penalty area but we didnt get a penalty before Gomes was properly crocked
Plenty of sides have got an absolute hammering at ANfield in the last 5 years (Man Utd 7 nil, Barca 4 nil, Arsenal and Spurs and even City have also had heavy defeats) so a 5-2 defeat with a depleted side was hardly a reason to sack him considering Liverpool at that time were possibly the best side in Europe
Then again its probably the same fans who are now calling for Dyche's head ie fans who just look at the result rather than the performance or extenuating circumstances
Our performance at Anfield in the injury time defeat was probably our best performance there in the 25 years even including the 2 nil covid win
So many bad decisions went against him. And it eventually broke him. Very much a guy who was in the right place at the wrong time.
We'd lost Gueye during the summer and replaced him with Gbamin (injured) Delph (injured), Gomes had his leg amputated by Son, Sigurdsson was also injured and a couple of others
All managers who don't have the luxury of 25+ strong squads go through bad spells - Moyes quite often did it
We even had a bad spell under Silva the previous season but still finished 8th - it was after the last minute Derby defeat which knocked the stuffing out of us - we got out of that
Silva has been our best managerial appointment since Moyes - certianly our best coach
Even though I'd been at ANfield for the 5 - 2 defeat I was gutted we sacked him
IIRC Kean had a 1 v 1 at 4-2 down and we should also have had a pen earlier in the game
and thats not on Dyche.
Seven points in eleven games for Silva, five points in eleven games now.
If 2019 was a death spiral, this one is too.
He looked a thoroughly beaten man by the end of his tenure.
…Fulham taking Spurs apart.
I don’t care if his coaches used to smoke behind the skips or he never spoke to youth players. I’d have him back in a heartbeat.
His next job is a top six club or a European powerhouse.
