Most artists are getting absolutely destroyed by the tiny amounts they get paid by the streaming services - particularly fucking Spotify which is the worst of the lot.
Touring (and merch) is pretty much the last avenue for a lot of them to actually make enough of a living to carry on making music.
It’s a tough one tho, because the ticket price increases come at a time when many are increasingly struggling to make ends meet. I can fully see why people are reluctant to spend big on tickets but don’t really blame the artists for doing what they can to put food on their own tables.
Until recently I’d full agree - big gigs have always left me cold as it is when it’s often just dots in the distance…… unless you stump up for the new “VIP” scam at 4-5x the price, so small gigs every time for me & no interest in something like Glastonbury.
I have to say tho that since Lockdown my gig going has plummeted, really just CBA most of the time & gone from 20-30 a year to probably 2-3 since lockdown.
Apathy on my part mainly but also ticket prices where you go “Really? To see them?….im ok”
Each to their own, but too many overpriced has-beens not delivering for me these days.
I go to about 70 gigs a year big and small - I'm seeing Liam Gallagher, Foo Fighters and The Killers in the next couple of months
If I want to go and see a band I like I go and see them
I certainly couldnt be arsed standing in a field to look at a screen 200 yards away
I'm going to the Garristonbury festival this year instead in Barnsley - 7 or 8 up and coming bands for £25 with a 300 capcaity featuring Andrew Cushin (who's going to be massive), The Lilacs and The Rosadocs amongst others
Hardly any bands there to get the blood pumping.
losing just a little more faith every day, and credibility too apparently
