That meant all our flair players went
We now have no one capable of unlocking a defence, no one capable of beating a full back for pace and not one of our players who you would fancy 1 v 1 to take on a full back
That hasn't always been the case recently
Even a forward line of Gordon, Richarlison and Gray is light years ahead of where we currently find ourselves - the fact they were sold for best part of £120m would tend to back that up
How does that ever change ?
For the majority of clubs in the premier league, grinding out results to stay in the league and collect the TV revenues is an end in itself. And then you can do the same again the following season.
Watching us play is joyless and I agree it is a means to an end but the end is being able to do the same next year. The whole system is designed so that we can't close the gap with Liverpool, and even if a consortium of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg decided they were boyhood Blues it wouldn't make any difference as they aren't allowed to fund losses.
Is this really what it has become ?
when everyone would have biten your hand off for a point on Friday night
Fans need to accept that we are a side who need to grind out results regardless of who we play against
It might not be pretty when sides come to Goodison to frustrate us but it gives our best chance of getting points against the better sides
We're a side who've lost Richarlison, Gordon, Gray and Iwobi in the last 18 months and replaced them with frees, loans and lads bought on the never never
Funnily enough I fancy us more to win at Man Utd than West Ham at home on Saturday
Having sold most of our attacking threats. He should get a new contract immediately.
I agree, but that won't stop some fans caling for him to be sacked.
