The right look after themselves and their family
and the left was about looking after the wider community. I think the right would argue they also care about the wider community but think that is best achieved by promoting entrepreneurship, by the state letting people get on with on their lives, that the more the state steps in, the less resilient the population get. They would argue the welfare etc that the left promote harms the people it professes to help.
I dont agree with them and for sure some of them genuinely dont give a shit about other people. But I know people who are caring, who do want the best for their communities and genuinely believe that less state help would be better for people. Wrong, but not selfish or evil.
I agree that the sportisation of politics has been horrendous, I mean the U.S is turning into some sort of nightmare in that respect.
I think there was previously some reality to left/right in that the right was about looking after yourself and your family whereas the left was about looking after wider community (my take anyway), but yes so many other issues have now been dragged onto that spectrum to be used as political footballs that it has all turned to mush.
Thanks for posting!
I live in Ireland, and I’m bemused at times by, the left right divide particularly in the US. I suspect two things;
First that the left right divide is a terrible way to think about politics.
Secondly, I think that the way people think and talk about sport really, in fact how people think about politics
I wrote about it here (and Everton, of course, gets a good mention)

but this speaker thing
it seems the SNP are butt hurt because Labour got an amendment that was worded a bit better ?
and by the speaker allowing it and a tory amendment to be voted on he went against convention, not law, just convention
are the snp just whinging because they know they are in decline
general election cant come soon enough
are labour perfect
NO
but fucking hell, compared to the rest its a no brainer
