…inevitably revert to dreadful football before too long. That first half last night! Christ. All we did was hoof it to DCL, there was practically nothing else at all.
Maybe as simple as selling any players capable of playing football sooner rather than later?
As you say though, supposed lesser teams than us still manage to do the basics right.
It’s like a disease though; Ashley Young, a player who has had a great career, won a decent haul of medals, reduced to hacking the ball like I would at one point in the first half, when it needed someone to be aware that he had a bit more space and pick a pass.
Appreciate our position, point’s deductions etc but having watched Everton for many years I am astounded at how bad we are at the basics, ie pass, move, work off the ball etc.
This is not something new by any means and with a few exceptions probably is what we’ve seen for 20 years+.
I don’t watch a great amount of non Everton football on TV but honestly even watching Burnley, Luton and in previous years Norwich, Southampton and many others, very few teams are as incapable of actually looking like a team that could pass.
When other low down the league teams lose it is because of the opposition or daft mistakes. They simply don’t keep giving the ball away. Moreover, most teams are capable of having periods of sustained pressure. We don’t and haven’t for years.
Players we bring in with ball playing reputations (Gomes, Garner) fall into the crap pass routine very quickly. Why?
I am genuinely bemused as to how we can be so bad.
