Thanks! I enjoyed reading this. Nt
(All quotes are actually 2nd hand paraphrasing).
Best player he’s ever played with: Pienaar. ‘In a class of his own and a really nice guy’.
Toughest opponent: ‘Hazard, and Martial a close second’.
My wife really liked him. Quietly spoken, nice guy. Only two things in his life, his family and football. When he’s not playing or training he’s with his family, doesn’t even play golf with the other players. Is aware that some may consider him boring but he’s completely happy with just family and football.
Doesn’t know what the FAI is playing at regarding Mick McCarthy’s contract (ends after euro qualifiers).
Recently started his coaching badges. Is raising ‘two scousers’. Is always nervous before every match, intensifies as captain. Playing badly hits him hard and again it’s worse when he’s captain, ‘a captain should perform better than everybody on the pitch’. His daughter was almost walking before the Wales match when he got his injury and he really wanted to walk with her when she took her first steps. He was heartbroken that instead her first steps were in the hospital ward when his family visited him and he couldn’t get out of bed.
The interview was only 10 minutes long but I’m sure I’ve missed plenty of other stuff that my wife told me but that’s marriage for you.
