Seems a bit pointless having the World Cup, if we know in advance who is the best, second best etc..
Thing is, we can talk about the easier side of the draw and all that, but it wasn't an accident - if the teams who were knocked-out had been as good as they supposedly were on paper then there wouldn't have been an "easier" side of the draw would there?
Fact is, they weren't, so other teams went through instead!
If we're saying Argentina, or Brazil or whoever are in the top 4 of the World, then why didn't they overcome teams who we would consider to be worse than them?
As I said when Germany went out; if they'd been in England's group instead of Belgium, they'd have gone further (possibly a lot further).
Spain, Portugal, Uruguay, Belgium, Brazil, probably Argentina, possibly even Germany... All better than England right now.
England are a good young side with the potential to become a very good one, but they aren't in the world's top four.
Neither are Croatia, IMO.
Croatia - lost
Belgium - lost
Panama - won
Tunisia - won
Colombia - won
Sweden - won
had that run been a set of friendlies it would be rated a below average performance...
