Re: I'm confident that your confident assertion will be proved correct
Brands/Silva need to produce an air of promise next season. Signs of invigorated life, much as Kendall’s 83/84 season produced the beginnings of an exciting young side that seemed to be on the up and poised for bigger things. Their cup win was a real bonus, but not necessarily the yard stick for Brands/Silva.
If we finish 7th but look like we’re moving with momentum in the right direction. That will be good. Rome wasn’t built in a day and all of that...
I'm also confident that 10th place for Everton, with a side playing neat attractive football but ultimately lacking outright quality compared to the top six, will result in a groundswell of "Silva/Brands out" calls, as well as players being pilloried for trying to play football when the cognoscenti suggest they should "fu cken get rid lad!!!!".
I could be wrong. I could be right...
...that we'll once more face a season of upheaval, transition and finishing 8-11. It's to be expected really. A more watchable way of playing will be nice especially if there's a plan and strategy becoming apparent. Still likely to get a chasing or two but hopefully this season we'll dish it out once or twice.
We've nothing to go on really. Same players as last season bar those we can shift (won't be easy) and those we get in. Plus an integrated Gylfi? We've got to look with optimism to our two new leaders otherwise what's the point. I hope all us fans are patient, it's going to take a while...
With this cull of players they seemed to have set the tone.
The senior team know their places aren't guaranteed and they have to be worked for and the under 23's know there's a place for them if they step up.
And for me it should be Coleman for Captain, if there is one player who's going to lead by example it will be him and if someone's not pulling their weight on the pitch it'd be him. Yes he's not been at his best but he admits that and once he gets his sharpness back expect to see a few strikers ending up in row Z.
If we can bring in 3 to 5 players a mixture of experience and youth I' expecting a top 6 finish.
