They are misnaned because....

The title does not give a clear or accurate indication of the organisation’s policies. If it was Stop War, it would be pacifist. Stop the War (STW) actually reflects the founding of the Coalition in the context of Bush’s ‘War on terror’. But it has become a sort of rolling slogan framed by the policy ‘Opposition to all military interventions’ (from the ‘About’ section of the website). However, that is used ONLY to mobilise against ‘Britain's involvement in wars of aggression’ that are ‘US-led’. This creates problems when applied to a conflict such as Syria, which primarily is fought by other powers and their proxies (notably Russia, Iran, Turkey and Israel). Other than the campaign against ISIS, the US and UK have largely kept out. STW therefore cannot address the causes and consequences of many actual wars (such as Syria) as their default position is that only the US instigates them and only Britain (and other Western powers) follow them.
A short disclaimer – I am of course aware that there have been wars that fit this description and indeed I’ve marched against many of them. But the ‘anti-imperialist’ left can’t credibly keep re-running a one-sided, misleading picture of contemporary geo-politics.
: ...because they dont protest Syria and Russia?
: But they're an organisation set up to oppose
: UK involvement in wars. From their homepage:
: " Stop the War opposes the British
: establishment's disastrous addiction to war
: and its squandering of public resources on
: militarism. "
: And the numbskulls who turn up with
: Pro-Assad regime flags are defo part of Stop
: The War are they? Is that your hunch or just
: another shot in the dark?
