The misnamed ‘Stop the War’ organisation don’t seem bothered about actual wars, but only actions taken by Western powers. They say they are against bombing of Syrian civilians. Well who has been doing the overwhelming amount of such bombing? Any demos outside the Russian Embassy? Some of these numskulls even turned up at their demo with pro-Assad flags and slogans. There is another dimension to Corbyn’s disingenuous position. He calls for no action without Parliamentary or UN approval. But even if such approval was given, he still wouldn’t back it.
None of these observations necessarily lead to support for the recent airstrikes (certainly not without a vote in Parliament) and a very large degree of scepticism about motive and outcome is necessary in any circumstance of potential military intervention. But I am equally sceptical about the shallow and one-sided proclamations of many of the so-called anti-war crowd.
