Central midfield requires a passer. Rooney's our best bet there right now, but yes, an Arteta type in there for longer-term would make a huge difference. I still think Klaassen should be given a chance, as well.
We don't yet know what we have with Cenk so have to reserve judgement on the forward positions. If he's up to it then him, Calvert-Lewin and Niasse are a serviceable trio of options. Feels like it's three good understudies vs one top level and two backups - we were spoiled with Lukaku, even if some didn't realise it.
The defence, however, is a mess. That's where the bulk of our summer activity needs to take place. Two starting quality centre backs and a starting left back. Only Coleman is truly up to snuff there, and thank God he seems to have come back without looking a lesser player than he was. Hopefully with a good pre-season behind him he'll be fine.
In order of necessity:
Centre back (1 of 2)
Centre back (2 of 2)
That should be a decent and balanced enough side to certainly finish 7th with some ease, and hopefully push those above once again:
Coleman - NEW - NEW - NEW
Gueye - Rooney/NEW
Walcott - Sigurdsson - NEW
Trouble is the 'ins' all need to be starting quality and they all need to be quick successes. And we've not proven too adept at those criteria lately.
