The Irish border

Right, so both the EU and UK sides have said a hard border between Northern and Southern Ireland is unacceptable. Great. So the options are as follows :
(a) a "technological solution". Sounds ace. Is microchipping every car on the island and expecting everyone to voluntarily declare everything they carry across the border workable?
(b) "regulatory alignment". Effectively staying in the customs union. For the whole of the UK, because the DUP have vetoed a NI only option. So either the EU back down or the arch-Brexiteers have to accept close ties to the EU.
(C) a hard border between the North and the South.
I can't see any other way, or how any of the 3 scenarios I have suggested will prove acceptable.
What do others think?
Use reverse psychology!
That sounds too complicated!
Don't use it, then.
OK, I'll do it!
