I actually don't mind the model for that reason. But it has to be supported by the right DoF and the right team around that person making the decisions. That's what I think we're missing and the knock-on effect is what we're currently seeing on the pitch.
I'm not even sure if that's really how we're setting up the role tho. I suspect it's simply a case of Steve Walsh being a glorified chief scout with the license to bring in players for both the future (U23s) and present (first team), rather than truly being tasked with setting the playing and coaching DNA for the future.
In short, it feels like we've put in place a model and only half-committed to it. But that's guesswork to a large extent, as none of us are privy to how that role really works. The only thing we can say with certainty is that regardless of whether it's a true DoF role or a glorified chief scout role, there's not many signs its achieving either objective.
