I thought it was simply poor set up and no reaction from the sidelines

Their goals came from a lack of defensive width in the midfield, Baines and Martina were so isolated Spurs had the freedom to get into very advanced positions by exploiting that space. As others have said it surely means the end of the 2 defensive midfielders. It just invites the opposition to attack. Maybe a 3-5-1-1 is way forward once Coleman is fit. Not sure were this leaves Barkley or Klaasen, as it seems Rooney is first name on the team sheet.
