If only for the fact that the difference between PL prizemoney for 14th to 6th probably fair outweights the difference between reaching just the group stages of EL or going quite a bit further to a quarter final instead.
Two years ago, I was totally commited to our awesome run in Europe (despite the fact that it might, coupled with a certain M Clattenburg, have costed us 4th in the league that year). I guess most years we are in Europe, I'd be really commited to us doing well in the competition, but certain years...such as this one is panning out, it's just not top order for me.
The PL is the biggest football league in the world, and particularly when it comes to TV/prize money, it dwarfs all other leagues. The only thing that really competes for PL clubs' priority is the CL, also with huge money and fame at stake. Yes, while I can totally understand that Fulham's view of PL survival first before anything is more natural than Everton taking a similar position, we need to think along the same lines now.
Betfair currently has us at 47/1 for relegation. If we lose at both West Ham and Hull now, certainly not beyond us I'd say, we'd probably be at sub-20s. I don't know about you, but that would represent way too close for comfort for me.
