* Agree on Cahill. He also seems transformed from clinical to nearly man in front of goal. He can't have many goals in 2009? And obviously adds very little apart from goals.
* Tim Howard is gradually showing signs of a good, not great keeper that has been playing for years without any real competition. (Though not to blame today).
* The lack of a properly fit, mobile quality striker. Saha is a world class finisher, but injury prone and bit past his prime with regards to his whole game. Yak was injured for 10 months, but off form in the four months prior and two months since. Jo is not good enough.
* Obviously missing key players, particularly the flair players. Look how Arsenal are FLYING at the moment. For two thirds of last season, on both sides of New Year, we more than matched that lot in the league. Imaigne Vermaelen, Fabregas and RvP becoming sidelined for a year. Even though they have a bigger squad, they'd struggle to cope as well.
I think the whole Lescott saga, the Arsenal debacle etc has put the whole place in a somewhat miserable mood that has never really lifted. Bolton away was probably our golden opportunity to get the place going again, maybe the derby will present another such opportunity, but we need points before that.
I think with the sale of Lescott, question marks over when and whether Yak, Mikel and even Jagielka fully recovers, as well as Howard, Yobo and Cahill's seemingly permanent dip to a lower level of performances might see us go through an unforeseen big transitional phase.
