On a recent journey on the A47 in East Anglia I used the facilities at a farm shop near Wisbech called Wurzels. Public toilet perfection! Big cubicles, total enclosed top and bottom, clean, lockable, each had its own sink, soap, hot-water and hand-drying facilities, plenty of paper, several cubicles so there was no queuing - could ask for no more.
Next week I'm off trekking in the Himalayas - I already know that I'm going to have to adapt my expectations. Most of the toilets will be squats, the "flush" will be a barrel of water in the corner and a jug, very few will have washing facilities, none will have hot water, any soap provided will be a dried up health risk - but I know from previous experience that I shall be able to cope as long as I have 2 things - a wall within reach to steady myself and a lock on the door! Oh, and lots of hand sanitiser!
