I have found ways of minimising the risk which work reasonably well for me most of the time. I drink a lot of water to try to promote a good flow when I am in situations where I know I won't have a problem. If I'm in situations which I know will be challenging I take cranberry capsules - the medical evidence for their effectiveness is ambiguous but I figure they won't be harmful and might just help.
Like you, I don't feel I can go out when I have a bladder infection. I usually find that things start to improve pretty quickly once I start taking medication - I do hope you're starting to feel an improvement.
