I hope you now realise that in no way did you let your consultant down and were a failure; instead he let YOU down, and HE failed in his prodessional duty, which was to take the patient's concerns seriously and to research what may lie behind them.
I say this becasue we have had cases where an individual has been referred to say a clinical psychologist who has said in effect "I have not come across this before, but I will see what I can find"; they did find relevant information on the web, and so were able to help the patient.
Could you email me your address, in confidence, and I will post you our brochure. You can take or send this to your consultant. At the least he will become informed and so be less likely to treat another patient that way; and one can only hope that hemay even apologise!
