Maybe we can do away with the visible side-stepping in a thread altogether. More often than not posters post their reply subsequent to the last entry, even if it is in fact intended as a reply to an earlier post. This could better be done by stating at the beginning of a post something like: “In reply to .... , more or less like now, but then with a proper indication of the actual post (with poster’s name and date, or so). Currently nearly all posts refer to the thread name introduced bij the Thread Starter. Thanks for the now, and I trust this matter will get the attention it needs.

Ah! This is evidence of a very welcome effort to make a big step in the right direction. Congratulations, and thanks for the effort.
A fairly extreme example would be the following long thread:
http://members.boardhost.com/paruresisUK/thread/1159261740.html , especially when you scroll to around two thirds down the thread.
Also, this is an initial reaction, based on first impressions.
