: Here we are back once again, on the
: lovely old Parade messageboard.
: Claire Carberry (Lucille Frank)
: and I are being asked to reprise
: our roles as Leo and Lucille to
: honor a fallen musical theatre
: comrade. Our musical director,
: Jane Rubak, for the Mid-Atlantic
: Regional Premiere of
: "Parade" passed away
: this past month from cancer. A
: memorial is being held in her
: honor on Sunday, June 8th at 2pm
: at the Fells Point Corner Theatre
: in Baltimore, Maryland. We are
: singing "All the Wasted
: Time" to honor her memory.
: She always kept the parade rolling
: along.
: Another note: Claire and I were in
: NYC at the Lincoln Center (the
: origin of the NYC Parade with
: Brent and Carolee) and we were
: seeing Carolee perform for closing
: night of William finn's
: "Elegies" and two
: audience members came up to us and
: said, "You were incredible,
: we saw Parade,oh my God, you were
: Leo and Lucille." It was
: such a funny and poignant moment.
: Hope everyone is out there making
: moments, singing songs, and taking
: care of each other. Life is a
: fragile and precious thing. God
: bless the Franks, Phagans, and the
: old red hills..

: PS-Hey Bruce, hope you're well!

Well, it has been a long time since I visited. So sorry to hear about your friend, but it sounds like you made a lovely tribute. After 'Parade' and "Ragtime", I was asked to write and direct the Casiidy Theatre's Christmas show. It is the story of a NYC USO show on Dec. 24, 1943. It has lotsa great 40's music, but it deals also with the reality of war: Loss, death, anti semitism , hope.I told the managing director that after "Parade" and "Ragtime", I could not write an empty headed glossed over musical revue: It would have to contain tough questions and no simle solutions. War is hell and I did not the messege to get lost. I want the show to be a true tribute to the WW2 generation, not the Lawrence Welk show. They gave me free reign, auditions are in three weeks and I am ready. Several members of our great "Parade" cast are auditioning and our Jim Conley, a monster talent, will costume and choreograph and our musical director will be the same....Again , my sympathy for your friend. Bruce
