The court scene: The audience of the courthouse will be sitting on the floor, in front of the audience, looking out, as if the Judge is in front of them. The Judge and witness stand will be on the stage. The front panel of this will open up so Mary can be inside for her scene with Frankie. Conley will come from the lobby in the back of the theatre when he enters. During Leo's Statement, since he is speaking directly to Lucille, the whole song, Lucille will stand up, turn around, and face him, breaking the barriers. Thanks for input. It could go up in the summer, so let me know. Thanks,

I'm probably going to direct/perform in Parade this summer, and was wondering about the set - my stage is about 14' tall, and I'm thinking about the set: Let me know what you think about this...
The oak tree on stage left, branching over.
Stage right: A two-story platform, about 6'5", with stairs on the outside leading up to Leo's office, and stairs from there leading down into the basement. In the basement scene, a dark cloth that is see-through with light will cover bars on the basement, which will double as the jail (symbolism). There will be a bunch of flats (rolling) put together that will be the back of the courthouse, and the back of the cityscape (different). On a scrim, will be painted a cityscape, and from an elevated platform, lit from behind, will be Leo and Lucille's apartment. This will be where Leo looks out the window at the Parade (I know it's weird to have the Parade downstage, but I'm in love with the scrim idea. And in the finale, Lucille will be speaking out, in the same way as Leo looking through the window.
The platform will be a staircase (3 very wide stairs, then 3 wide-ish, then 3 narrower, then a platform on the top, that will be about 8'). It will be on wheels, and on the back, there can be a trolley sign, so it can double as a trolley, or the platform for Lucille's entrance in Pretty Music, or When The Flood Comes.
Eric.
