: Hi Larry Erica I remember these times many
: years ago when I was a flight attendant out
: of JFK based I mean one night we were
: rostered to fly out on ship 656pa bound for
: MIA/LHR we never got off the ground with
: this jet until they filled it only forty
: people for a 747-121 flight to LHR
: practically empty. Now what a waste of money
: flying a big aircraft like that on a short
: domestic then onto London with 59 passengers
: and full crew from MIA. But they flew her
: across this is the break down of running
: cost. How many airliners would fly such a
: large jet empty across the Atlantic for the
: exception of ferried aircraft going to the
: desert out of service yes. Then a few days
: later back to JFK from LHR on ship 739pa
: this was in 1982 PA 003. I am just saying
: even some of the internal American routes
: were the same with 707, 727,L1011's DC10's .
: The only profits made were from Pacific long
: haul sectors to HKG?SYD?AKL/HNL/LAX/JNB. The
: planes were always full or over full on
: 747sp jets and 747B jets. So it strikes me
: dead to why flight ops never restructured
: there air routes to fight off there
: competitors and operate small aircraft into
: bigger airports and less non profitable
: services. Then to pay us the crew and
: catering cost the company considerable
: amount and the fuel. I do agree PAN AM
: should never have had this frequent flyer
: program they lost out to much. It should
: have being kept only for the long haul air
: routes. Well my last flight out of JFK to
: MIA was aboard a 747-121 ship 749PA we just
: made it out when we were told of the news on
: the way in flight to MIA. I felt speechless
: my gut felt turned up side down along with
: the other crew. Instead we let the
: passengers help themselves to the galley as
: much as they wanted to eat or drink we gave
: out first class business class toiletry pack
: the blue packs with soap etc in them why not
: we were sacked in mid air. But we got a warm
: happy cheer from the public when we left the
: aircraft. That was the last time I saw our
: plane Dashing wave I herd she was destine
: for the desert floor to be chopped up. But
: yes the financial wows were to be blamed for
: mis management we could have saved our Queen
: of the skies Pan American World
: Airways.Thank you Trippe and the Management
: We are Gone but not forgotten. Thank you
:
: Best wishes to all and former staff

: Hi Larry, Joe Erica I well support your
: comments and agree with you 100% in what you
: have to say as former employees of such a
: great airline that pioneered the world. Yes
: the way the airline was run was well mis
: managed and abused indeed. Many people lost
: out and were left drained with no come back
: for refunds on air tickets or employees pay
: outs. Our company had an account with PAA in
: the eighties we were part of the travel
: chain Global 4 us based in London Sydney
: Tokyo New Zealand Seattle we had travel
: offices every where but know we had gone
: bust belly up in 1992 after PAA collapsed in
: 1991 we lost over $450,000 dollars from
: tickets never used and never got a single
: cent back. Bad management and lack of money
: dried up the airline. great to see the web
: site and memories are around. I still have
: many of the original paper tickets from Pan
: Am with there flight numbers Dest on them
: never used

: Hi Larry & Joe I have read your comments
: yes I do believe what you both say about
: company wastage in many departments
: including sales and assets of Pan Am. I
: worked in the PAN AM building on the 27th
: floor which was in advertising. I can
: certainly say alot of ordering of products
: and computers etc from suppliers were
: brought at unbelievable prices higher then
: the local electronic stores sold them for.
: Most were sent overseas to other PAN AM
: offices ordering materials such as posters
: stationary and alot was never accounted for
: when it was sent or never received.Yet it
: was egnored and paid for. As for air fares
: going through archives from the 1980's many
: were refunded or freebie's were given to
: staff and non family members some how after
: audits were done. Also after a few crashes
: with aircraft and the law suites against the
: airline it drained the airline considerably
: yet insurance pay outs on the aircraft were
: actually below the market value of what they
: were worth at the time. Yet Trippe continued
: to try and over see this problem by selling
: off aircraft or disposale to get money back
: into the company that took a back flip in
: the end. I do know five floors on the PAN AM
: building were emptied out and never used
: again to cut cost in 1990 that was to late.
: I lost my job like many others did that day.
: Thank you

: Hello everyone I have read many comments
: from
: this site and from the former staff about
: what happen to the Queen of the skies Pan
: Am. I am amazed how we conclude with the
: fact over it's financial woows it had from
: the 707's 747 days. Mind you Mr Trippe new
: the future of the out come but alot hasn't
: being revealed publicly for the record. Yes
: the merger or take over of National airlines
: with there rubbish Pan Am picked up along
: with the debit which also contributed
: further to Pan Am's outstanding debits
: However it boils down to the fact most of
: the aircraft wern't Pan Am's in the first
: place they belonged to banks & financial
: brokers or through Boeing who made a deal
: with Trippe which eventually caved in. Alot
: of other assets including maintence
: facilities spare parts other property's were
: leased out to the airline on long term
: bases. This also included leasing aircraft
: never paid for after the demise in 1991. I
: ask what are peoples thoughts on this or to
: add to this conversation. There's alot more
: to this then meets the eye. Many thanks
