If my memory is correct, I don't believe customers made down payments for Pan Am flights to the moon. They made reservations for a future flight and received a confirmation card with a reservation number signed by John Montgomery who was then a Senior Vice President of the company. Those were pretty exciting days for Pan Am and it's employees.
